Πέθανε ο διάσημος ηθοποιός Peter O' Toole


Ο Ιρλανδός ηθοποιός Peter O' Toole, ο κινηματογραφικός «Λόρενς της Αραβίας» άφησε την τελευταία του πνοή σε ηλικία 81 ετών, μετά από μακρά ασθένεια, ανακοίνωσε σήμερα ο ατζέντης του.

Ο Ο' Τουλ πέθανε το Σάββατο 14 Δεκεμβρίου σε νοσοκομείο του Λονδίνου όπου νοσηλευόταν το τελευταίο διάστημα, είπε ο ατζέντης Στιβ Κένις. «Η οικογένεια ανακοινώνει σήμερα ότι δυστυχώς ο Πίτερ πέθανε χθες, γαλήνια, στο νοσοκομείο. Ήταν άρρωστος για μεγάλο διάστημα», σημείωσε.

Ο Peter O' Toole γεννήθηκε το 1932 από Ιρλανδό πατέρα και Σκωτσέζα μητέρα. Μεγάλωσε στη Βρετανία και φοίτησε σε καθολικό σχολείο. Σε νεανική ηλικία ασχολήθηκε με τη δημοσιογραφία αλλά καθώς το όνειρό του ήταν να γίνει ηθοποιός, φοίτησε στη Βασιλική Ακαδημία της Δραματικής Τέχνης.

Καταξιώθηκε αρχικά ως θεατρικός ηθοποιός και ασχολήθηκε ελάχιστα με τον κινηματογράφο και την τηλεόραση μέχρι το 1962, όταν ο Ντέιβιντ Λιν τον επέλεξε να πρωταγωνιστήσει στο ρόλο του συνταγματάρχη Λόρενς στην ταινία «Ο Λόρενς της Αραβίας».

Η ερμηνεία του αυτή τον έφερε υποψήφιο για Όσκαρ. Ακολούθησαν άλλες επτά υποψηφιότητες για Όσκαρ πρώτου ανδρικού ρόλου αλλά δεν κέρδισε ποτέ το πολυπόθητο αγαλματάκι παρά μόνο το 2003, όταν η Αμερικανική Ακαδημία τον τίμησε με ένα βραβείο για το σύνολο της καριέρας του.

Πρωταγωνίστησε σε περισσότερες από 90 διαφορετικές παραγωγές της τηλεόρασης και του κινηματογράφου με σημείο αναφοράς της μεγάλης του καριέρας να παραμένει πάντα η θρυλική του ερμηνεία στις ταινίες «Lawrence of Arabia», «Goodbye, Mr Chips» και «Venus». Είναι ο ηθοποιός με τις περισσότερες υποψηφιότητες για Oscar.

Αποσύρθηκε από τα φώτα των πλατό πέρυσι, λέγοντας χαρακτηριστικά πως δεν έχει πια το κουράγιο να συνεχίσει.
